Crafting Fine Vodka & More

S4 • E3    Jan 9, 2013
Local wineries and brew pubs are commonly found within our state, but in West Point two men decided to try their hand at crafting vodka. The result? An award-winning vodka that is among the finest made in the United States. In the digital age, fashion illustration is a lost art, but Omaha artist Mary Mitchell is bringing it back. Her collection of a thousand hand drawn sketches, created over three decades, uniquely reveal the beauty of fabric and design. While autumn leaves fall at Ponca State Park, Lakota writer Joseph Marshall shows young natives how easy it looks, but how hard it really is to hit a target with arrows shot from a traditional handmade bow. Just over a century ago construction began on a BIG idea. A transcontinental highway that would run coast-to-coast. 3,389 miles of paved road from New York City to San Francisco. It was called The Lincoln Highway and Nebraska helped make it happen. A world-class structure made of Indiana limestone and designed by American architect Betram Goodhue, the Nebraska State Capitol building tells Nebraska's history through magnificent works of art in mosaics, murals, and carvings. Construction began in 1922 and took a decade to build, but Goodhue never saw the his work completed as he died in 1924. Today, this national historic landmark attracts over 100,000 visitors annually and the 400-foot tower, inspired by Goodhue's travels across our state, can be seen from 20 miles away.
