There are still a few hundred real, original Vlielanders living on the island. The rest are imports, have a second home there or temporarily live in a holiday home. Vlieland has become everyone's and therefore actually no one's anymore. At least, that is how the real Vlielanders increasingly feel. Tourism continues twelve months a year. There is never a moment when the island is theirs for a while. Kefah Allush goes in search of the appeal of this oasis for the original, the new and the temporary residents.
