Vickory, a rock star, buys a mansion on the outskirts of Fickley and moves in with his girlfriend, Sue Colman. Their previous convictions for drug use are a matter of record, and the police may still have their own suspicions, but Parkin is convinced anonymous phone calls about their behaviour are merely malicious. He is drawn in when tempers flare as first Sue, and then Vickory are ignored in the village.
