Beth Parkin, Moss' wife, thinks that he and Radley are too ready to jump to conclusions when they both suspect Mr Edwards, the local insurance agent. Parkin has no choice but to act, though, when Mrs Jackson comes to him with a query about the bonus on her policy and asks for his advice. To spare Mrs Henderson any embarrassment, Beth offers to speak to her and ask Mr Henderson to call in; when he does so he finds DC Radley waiting for him.
