PC Moss Parkin is called on to help Sergeant Eldridge of the military police in his hunt for Tommy Craig, who has deserted. Parkin may end up looking a fool when his Craig steals his car as they search the house belonging to Craig's sister, but it is his experience and local knowledge that gets them their next lead by finding Craig's mother in hospital.
