Everything is ready for a battery factory to be built on the outskirts of Pantallós. If István Fejes wants it so. The mayor of the town, Aczél Tihamér, would do everything to make this large-scale Chinese-Hungarian investment happen, which would make the whole town rich (especially him), but first he would have to make peace with István, the largest landowner in Pantallós. István, however, hates Tihamér more than he loves money and declares that the factory can only be built on the land of his ancestors over his dead body. The Guba family, members of a once wealthy banking family, fall into this impasse. After the bankruptcy of their bank and the arrest of bank director Antal Guba, they are forced to move back to this hopeless, boring village, Antal's hometown, where their house is barely big enough for them, and where everyone knows the influential Antal Guba only as Tóni.
