Bernd Broske is obsessed with the idea that he must provide his wife Angela with a life of luxury. To achieve this, he doesn't even shy away from breaking and entering, and eventually ends up in prison for theft. While he is serving his sentence, Angela falls in love with another man but doesn't dare confess this to Bernd. When he is released early from prison, he surprises his wife in their apartment with her boyfriend Hanssen and commits an act of desperation. Wilhelm Gurak, whom Bernd met in prison, is with him. While on the run, the two men get into a fight.
