First Lieutenant Hübner and Lieutenant Berghoff are facing a mystery. The crime happened within a flash: wage money was stolen from the car of chief accountant Heinz Siebert in under a minute. The car was unattended only for a few seconds and there were no traces of the use of brutal force. All of these signs making it look like the chief accountant only pretended a theft. But he stubbornly denies his perpetration or complicity. And even first lieutenant Hübner begins to doubt Siebert's guilt when all too clear traces seem to strengthen the suspicion way too clearly.
