When journalist Leo Preiss unexpectedly dies in the hospital, his intern is certain that her mentor has fallen victim to a medical conspiracy, because Leo Preiss wasn't ill. He had admitted himself to the hospital to investigate a hospital scandal with deadly consequences. Had Leo Preiss actually found evidence in his investigations pointing to the doctors' guilt in the sudden deaths of several patients, as his intern suspects? Schmücke and Schneider also soon have legitimate doubts about the journalist's cause of death. The man's body is nowhere to be found, and his laptop containing explosive research findings has disappeared. Schmücke can't believe in so many coincidences. The two detectives struggle to break through the doctors' united front. Too many of them are implicated in the hospital scandal.
