Chief Inspector Olga Lenski and Police Sergeant Horst Krause investigate a milieu where the life of a horse seems to count more than that of a human. When the stallion Merkur, the most valuable horse in the stable, disappears, veterinarian Dr. Lutz becomes the focus of the investigation.
