While fleeing a routine traffic stop, a construction contractor is killed in a truck accident. His cargo: stolen timber. First Lieutenant Fuchs and Lieutenant Woltersdorf investigate the case. A lead takes them to a forestry operation in Thuringia, the starting point of a large-scale timber theft. But Fuchs and Woltersdorf aren't the only ones on the trail of the timber thieves; Jürgen Busse, who has returned to his hometown as a forester after completing his studies, is also on the case. There, he encounters Christine Bronski again, with whom he shares not only the memory of a past love affair but also a child, which Busse only now learns about. When he uncovers the shady dealings within Bronski's brigade, Busse faces a difficult decision, because not only Brigadier Bronski but also his daughter Christine is involved in the thefts.
