Obstetrician-gynecologist Sveta is happily married to Mikhail, a talented cardiac surgeon. It seemed they had overcome all adversity together. Misha's mother, Nadezhda Vasilevna, long resented her son's choice and intended to marry him to Vera, her friend's daughter. Then Sveta became pregnant but lost the baby, as well as the very possibility of having children. But she and Misha decided to adopt a newborn girl, Lenochka. Everything suddenly changes when Mikhail flies to a conference in Sochi. Sveta learns from the news that his plane has crashed, with no survivors. She despairs. But soon she is informed that her husband checked in for the flight, but never boarded.
