The plot of this thriller is based on unusual works of art. Each of the paintings depicts a sleeping person whose soul is trapped in the canvas. This curse has come to the modern world from a Master Painter who loved his wife to insanity. As she was dying, the Master seized her soul in a portrait with the power of his feelings. This legend inspired businessman Pavel Voronov to acquire a collection of canvases with sleeping people. Photographer Kostya and art critic Agnessa help him with his work. Artist Aleksey Tikhonov, who dreams to continue the work of the Master, also hunts for unusual paintings and learns to include souls in portraits. This story could well remain a legend for art students if it were not for the murder of a famous painter, another fan of "The Sleeping". The crime is handled by the Justice Major and the Investigator for "especially important cases", Irina Shchulyaeva, who makes herself a promise to get to the of the matter.

According to the legend, the souls of persons depicted on this paintings are enclosed in its canvases. For the first time such a painting was written by a distraught artist: not wishing to loose his dying wife, he imprisoned her soul in the portrait with the power of his feelings for her. ReplikaMajor Shchulyaeva comes to the conclusion that death of artist Ivantsov was not accidental. She finds out that a disciple, a certain Aleksey Tikhonov, often came to see him. Voronov asks Kostya to invite singer Lisa, who was in an ill-fated accident together with the artist, to the nightclub for a generous reward. The girl accepts the invitation and goes to the club, and Voronov's people at that time open her apartment and replace one of the paintings that were stored there. - OlgaE3
OlgaKostya and his partner get into Lera's apartment who used to work as a dancer on Lisa's concerts, and download data from her computer. According to Voronov's order, art critic Agnessa invited to the dinner with him. In conversation, the businessman mentions his interest in the "posthumous painting" - the canvases with dead people which seem sleeping. Meanwhile, Tikhonov comes to Lisa and finds out that she sold the original painting The Servant to Agnesa replacing it with a replica at home. In the hospital, the art critic ponders the events associated with the fateful canvases, and begins to believe in the gloomy legend of the souls depicted in the portraits. Lisa hastens to destroy the next portrait of the master in the hope that this will stop the curse of the "the sleeping".
