Real Stories of the Highway Patrol
Too Slow for Comfort/In Cold Water/Midday Run
S2 • E22 Dec 17, 1994
Twelve days prior, cold blooded killers Howard and Jeff Fellinger assaulted and robbed a 77 year old retired school teacher in Alabama. The brothers took her money then gambled it away in Las Vegas. Now they want more in Arizona killing a clerk and cleaning lady at a truck stop. Distracted the two killers are speeding right next to Arizona trooper George McGuire, he learns the brothers are wanted on assault and robbery. State Trooper Jim Stanton is only a few miles down the road and turns to backup trooper McGuire. The officers form a rolling roadblock, boxing the fugitives in so they can't use the fast lane to escape and attempt to stop them at a dead end. Elusively returning to the highway, but with no other escape road in sight the killers take a chance and go offload running into a dry riverbed. $4,000 in cash and spent shot gun shells were found in their vehicle as they were apprehended and sentenced to death.
