A young woman, Ira Arefeva, suffers domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Nikolay, a former police officer. After yet another beating, she flees to her hometown, where she hides with her best friend, Lara. While fishing, Lara's husband recovers a bag containing a passport in the name of businessman Oleg Grozdev from the seabed. To save Ira from violence and cover his tracks, Lara, a civil registry office employee, backdates a sham marriage between Ira and Grozdev. However, by changing her passport and surname, the impostor Ira unwittingly becomes embroiled in the criminal activities of her "new husband," who disappeared the day before.
