He finally gets a loan from the De Bolle groceries shop, and decides to repay the favor by repairing the broke till. But that means taking it home, and his note isn't noticed, so a theft is presumed. the mayor, who stands in for the sole village constable on holiday, investigates without the benefit of experience or talent.
