In this week’s SciCast, we discuss the Brazilian Dietary Guidelines, one of the legal instruments that guide all policies aimed at combating hunger, promoting food security, and ensuring nutrition across various life stages. The Guide was developed in Brazil but has already gained international attention, with new studies using its metrics and classifications to define current food systems and spaces. Here, we’ll also explore the concept of ultra-processed foods and examine the controversy surrounding this classification.
