S2 • E7 Aug 10, 1992In 1932, 400 black men from Macon County, Alabama, suffering from syphilis were recruited for the Tuskegee medical study. They were not treated for syphilis. The purpose was to study the course of the untreated disease and to perform autopsies after death. Even after the discovery of penicillin during world War II they were given fake treatment.
