Big Bird hears her speaking Spanish to it, since her friend also speaks Spanish and Maria feels it would make the bird more comfortable. As she goes into the store, the canary talks to Big Bird in Spanish. Big Bird is able to learn the words for canary (canario), cage (jaula), birdseed (semillas), water (agua) and sing (canta). Maria returns and doubts Big Bird's story, until she hears him repeat the words back. Cartoon- Speech Balloon: C for carrot. Monsters pass on the message, "See." The wide shot reveals that the monsters were whispering about the Letter C.
