In the midst of a stand-off with the Romulans, the Enterprise's computer systems gain partial sentience and start playing practical jokes upon the crew, which leads to a dangerous life-and-death standoff with Romulans. It takes a while for the Enterprise crew to realize what's going wrong with their ship in order for them to have any hope of correcting it in time.
