Katya Rybkina sings in a small group directed by her husband, Vadim. One day, Katya returns to her native Vzveysk to visit her parents. She waits for her husband, but he never arrives: Vadim dies en route under mysterious circumstances, leaving Katya with debts and problems. Amid the investigation into her husband's death and the loss of her career, Katya loses her most precious possession-her voice. Fleeing threats from creditors, Katya temporarily moves to the town of her childhood, where she learns of plans to demolish the Community Center-the site where her singing career began. She decides to fight for the Community Center and clashes with the town's mayor, Andrey, her first love. Katya realizes her feelings for him are still alive, but at the same time, new circumstances emerge in the case of her husband's death.
