War drama set at the end of the Continuation War in 1944 on the Karelian Isthmus. It is the story of the men who prepared food on the front - the cookhouse crew. The series also follows the fate of Tauno's family amid the turmoil of war. Dragoon Tauno Tukeva is on the front, looking forward to his leave. The family's third child is about to be born. Through Tauno's daughter, Hilkka, we see a child's experience of the war.
