Poor farmer Shankar borrows one and a quarter seers of wheat from the village priest to feed a visiting holy man. Even after returning more than he borrowed, the priest demands interest and keeps rolling over the debt. After seven years, Shankar realises he has paid many times the original loan and takes a stand against exploitation.
