Maria Brant is dying of tuberculosis and must find her teenage son's father that she hasn't seen in 15 years, so he'll have someone to take care of him when she's gone. Too weak to complete the search, James seeks and finds the man who is at first reluctant. When the man hears that Maria has died, he comes for his son.
