When Laura is left fifty thousand pounds by the late William Brookenfeld a suspicious Caroline is led to believe that her mother had had an affair with him whilst still married and is very angry. Laura admits to the affair but explains that she was very lonely because her husband was an alcoholic and that she confessed the affair to him and they made up,which leads to reconciliation between Caroline and Laura.
