Vespasian and Antoni suggests to Mandoni that he could be a gladiator, because they believe he will make them a fortune. The Mandoni, against the opinion of Numancia, agrees, because he secretly plans a revolt among the slaves, in the style of Spartacus, and regain the freedom to flee to the mountains. The day of Vespasian's wedding to Marcia is approaching, but an attack precipitates events.
