Seth, the childhood friend of Jason and John-Boy Walton is not happy that his mother is so sheltering. Seth's father is a singer and he would like nothing better than to join his father's band on the road. But first he promises Jason that he will make a recorder for him and teach him how to play. When Seth's health becomes an issue after he faints, Jason has to deal with a life-altering situation as Seth only has one year to live.
