Private Pasha Buryonkin deserts his military unit after hearing devastating news that his girlfriend, Maya, is getting married to someone else. Captain Kuchkov immediately sets off after him, hoping to bring his friend back quietly before the authorities declare him a formal deserter. In a twist of fate, Maya changes her mind and heads toward the unit to explain everything to Pasha. As the three of them travel, they constantly cross paths with the Afanasyev family—alternating between rides in Fyodor Ivanovich’s UAZ Patriot and Ivan’s KamAZ. After a series of near-misses on the road, the group finally reunites at the Afanasyev home, where the misunderstandings are resolved and the runaways find a safe harbor.
