Membership in NATO not only means protection but also an obligation to help other member states in the event of an armed attack. Denmark has sent over 30,000 soldiers to war over the past 30 years. Those who were there take us back, right into the heart of some of the most difficult conflicts in modern history. Decision-makers, civilians, soldiers and relatives give their side of the story. The year is 1992 and Suzi has been sent to the former Yugoslavia on a UN peacekeeping mission. The Taliban advance and the fighting intensifies. It is decided to close the Armadillo base. War fatigue is setting in in Denmark and the Taliban are ready for the last armed advance that will send hundreds of thousands of Afghans fleeing.
