When the canine brings the hand to his masters who are enjoying a picnic, Boyd and his cold case team are soon called in to investigate. Further pieces of the related body are later found after an exhaustive search, and attempts to identify the victim eventually lead the team to a nearby military base.

A distance away a beheaded corpse is later discovered and Boy's team works to discover how the young man died. As the corpse had evidently bee beheaded by an antique sword, suspicion points to a military academy in the area that trains private mercenaries for the Iraq War.
