One in five children in Sweden is exposed to sexual abuse at some point during their childhood, and in parts of the world the numbers are even higher. The World Childhood Foundation was founded in 1999 by Queen Silvia to protect children's right to a safe childhood free from violence and sexual abuse. A five-part documentary that provides a unique insight into the Queen's commitment to Childhood. In the series, viewers will also meet a number of enthusiasts who have dedicated their lives to making a difference for children. Police officers, researchers, doctors and people who were victims of sexual abuse during childhood talk about their commitment.

Queen Silvia and Childhood have been involved in the fight against child sex trafficking for many years. In Bangkok, we meet several of those who work in the field to prevent and help vulnerable children. Detective Inspector Cathrine Hagström Hägg talks about the typical perpetrator from Sweden. PedofilerEvery year, two percent are born with a diagnosis of pedophilia. How does a pedophile act and think? Chief physician and researcher Christoffer Rahm and his colleagues answer these questions and talk about their research. We are there when they chat and communicate with pedophiles on the Darknet. In a masked interview, we meet a young man who is attracted to children. But does everything in his power not to abuse a child. A mother, whose son is sentenced to many years in prison after he abused his partner's child, also talks about the trauma after she found out about the abuse. Barnhem, One Sky och ChildhoodGrowing up in an orphanage drastically increases the risk of being abused. Childhood supports organizations that work to ensure that children primarily grow up with their biological parents. In Ukraine, with the support of the Queen, they have succeeded in reducing the number of children in orphanages. In Kiev, we visit old orphanages that now conduct groundbreaking activities. And in Thailand, we visit a village where over 20 unregistered orphanages have established themselves. The homes, which are run by everything from religious sects to outright fraudsters, trick parents into leaving their children there with the promise of education. Then they swindle money from volunteers and donors in the West. The organization One Sky, with the support of Childhood, works to convert parents and support them financially so that they can afford education for their children.
