  • Journey to the Amazon of Soybeans
    E1
Journey to the Amazon of SoybeansWith this subject we enter the clash of cultures and mentalities of a Brazil shared between an agricultural world of subsistence, with its gauchos, its landless and its Indians and on the other an ultra modern agro-food industry. which is exported to large developed countries. In Para and Mato Grosso, this industry calls into question the sustainability of a natural order, highly symbolic, almost mythical, of an untouched and wild Amazonian forest. Its prolific nature sets the scene for El Dorado dreams of the new SOYA princes whose fortunes increase as the forest diminishes. An explosive environmental situation in which the major Chinese, American and European importing groups are involved.
  • Mercury, lies and truths
    E2
Mercury, lies and truthsNumerous studies have shown and demonstrate that fish from Amazonian rivers and rivers are contaminated with mercury. These fish in turn contaminate the Amerindians, large consumers of fish. The media have accused a "gold lobby" of polluting rivers. On the strength of this, the Guyanese authorities have banned the use of mercury since January 1, 2006. The measure is commendable but the problem remains unresolved and the danger lurks ... all over the world.
  • Rio Platano - Lost Eldorado of the Misquitos
    E3
Rio Platano - Lost Eldorado of the MisquitosRio Platano is the largest biosphere reserve in Central America. Its marsh and tropical rainforest ecosystems are home to a large number of animal and plant species. In 1982, Unesco inscribed these natural resources on the list of world heritage of mankind. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. Most of its population lives on agriculture and logging. But the massive cutting of timber in all the country's forests has dried up the land. To escape the misery of their region of origin, many peasants came to settle in the Rio Platano Reserve, where they began to clear the forest to cultivate, result: in 1996, Unesco registered Rio Platano on the list of endangered world heritage.
  • Deer effect
    E4
Deer effectThe Cévennes National Park, more than 91,000 hectares, barely 1% of the national territory and yet this place alone contains more than half of the territory's biodiversity. A place has its history shaped by a prolific nature where dozens of ecosystems linked to rock, woodland, herbaceous or aquatic environments have shaped a unique landscape. Far from excluding human life, the park is home to more than 40,000 people. Is this why it has always been considered a "different from the rest" park?
  • Chronicles of a sacrificed lake
    E5
Chronicles of a sacrificed lakeIn the Democratic Republic of Congo, 95% of the hippo populations have been destroyed by poaching since 1994. The traditional ecosystem of the animal is located in the Great Lakes region, epicenter of terrible wars since 1994 and the Rwandan genocide. The peace theoretically signed in 2003 does not correspond to reality: the province of Kivu does not yet have security, the management of resources is spiraling out of control. In such a context, nature conservation can be a stabilizing factor in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A striking case is given to us by the situation of Lake Edward included in the Virunga National Park. Here the gradual disappearance of the populations of hippos leads to a destabilization of the fishing companies which border the lake. Better management of natural resources may be able to secure the region against new conflicts and help consolidate peace.
