E3Dead? Or Alive?Parkin is naturally suspicious when a man turns up late at night and confesses to murdering a girl he had met. Having caused some trouble earlier on his motorbike before giving Parkin the slip, the absence of a body makes Parkin think he is being taken for a fool. Things look more serious though when a 17 year old girl is reported missing from a local approved school. - Fame of a Kind
E4Fame of a KindFollowing the theft of some cash at a nearby hotel, Parkin is convinced that Jack Kenny, suspected of the crime, will be in hiding at his mother's house. She denies having seen him, but Parkin decides to keep watch anyway despite Ron Radley's scepticism. Parkin's hunch looks right when Radley finds Mrs Kenny trying to swap some foreign currency at her work, and having discovered how little it was actually worth she has no desire to face her son. - Bonus
E5BonusBeth Parkin, Moss' wife, thinks that he and Radley are too ready to jump to conclusions when they both suspect Mr Edwards, the local insurance agent. Parkin has no choice but to act, though, when Mrs Jackson comes to him with a query about the bonus on her policy and asks for his advice. To spare Mrs Henderson any embarrassment, Beth offers to speak to her and ask Mr Henderson to call in; when he does so he finds DC Radley waiting for him. - The Good Listener
E6The Good ListenerTom Hall comes to PC Moss Parkin to report that his wife, Helen, has gone missing. Parkin realises he had seen her himself the previous evening in a nearby pub with another man, Jack Bromley, and soon discovers he was not alone in having seen the two together. Having been a regular sight in each other's company, it becomes apparent Bromley wanted to break off their relationship. - The Deserter
E7The DeserterPC Moss Parkin is called on to help Sergeant Eldridge of the military police in his hunt for Tommy Craig, who has deserted. Parkin may end up looking a fool when his Craig steals his car as they search the house belonging to Craig's sister, but it is his experience and local knowledge that gets them their next lead by finding Craig's mother in hospital. - Boys
E9BoysMr Bennett's car is stolen as he attends the local cinema, taken for a spin by his own son and three of his teenage friends. When they mistakenly think they have knocked down and killed a pedestrian, they panic and decide they cannot just go home. When Parkin is able to catch up with them, he finds that the boys have been seeking to emulate their silver-screen idols. - Nothing Personal
E12Nothing PersonalBeth Parkin, asleep in the house alone while her husband is out, hears noise downstairs and goes down to discover the police office ransacked before being attacked and slightly hurt as the intruder flees. What first appears to be petty vandalism become more sinister when she receives a phone call warning her to wait for the next time. Has she, or her husband, made an enemy in the village? - Everybody Knew But Me
E13Everybody Knew But MeOut for the evening with Beth, Moss is asked by Hopkins, new landlord of the local pub, if he can look into the pilfering he has discovered. Hopkins may wish to avoid upsetting his staff, and creating trouble that would reflect on him with the brewery, but Parkin has no real choice but to investigate the theft officially. It is however another social call that reveals more than just the culprit to Parkin. - No Friendship for Coppers
E14No Friendship for CoppersWhen Mr Crossley loses some money in a pub, it seems obvious to DC Radley that Tom Wilkins, seen with him immediately before, is the thief. Parkin is not so sure and delays seeing Wilkins, but are his doubts caused by scepticism over Crossley's account or friendship between Parkin and his wife and the Wilkins, living in the same village? He eventually has no choice but to confront Wilkins when the evidence against him mounts up. - The Manchester Passenger
E15The Manchester PassengerParkin is reluctant to take action against someone drunk on Boxing Day, but is forced to act when villagers start to complain. Bringing the man, James Robert Moggs, back to the police house Parkin finds his explanation hard to believe. When Moggs then disappears, Parkin makes some enquiries and finds it is more than the man's inebriation that lies at the bottom of the matter. - Vickory
E18VickoryVickory, a rock star, buys a mansion on the outskirts of Fickley and moves in with his girlfriend, Sue Colman. Their previous convictions for drug use are a matter of record, and the police may still have their own suspicions, but Parkin is convinced anonymous phone calls about their behaviour are merely malicious. He is drawn in when tempers flare as first Sue, and then Vickory are ignored in the village. - This Little Piggy...
E21This Little Piggy...PC Moss Parkin is on duty at the local market, supervising the auction of livestock, and finds local farmer Nathan Farrar selling a pig in breach of regulations. His and Beth's friendship with Farrar, and knowledge of his financial situation, make it a difficult decision for Parkin. Examining the pig more closely, Parkin suspects swine fever and has to call a halt to the sale anyway which leads to more acrimony. - The Spider's Web
E23The Spider's WebPC Parkin, on routine patrol, reports the sighting of Charles Knox, a known criminal, with another man to the collator's office. DC Radley is interested but can take no action beyond circulating a warning, until a further sighting provides a lead on the second man's identity - someone else in the collator's files. With two criminals seen together, Radley is convinced they must be planning something, and is soon proved right. - It's Got to Be Local
E24It's Got to Be LocalPC Parkin and DC Radley investigate a break-in at a shop in the village, taking the safe containing what little savings the elderly owner had. The small sweet shop seems such an unlikely target, and Parkin wonders who might have known of the safe's presence. Two possible suspects emerge from visitors to the shop, the rent collector and a general handyman - whose name is only too familiar to Parkin. - Two Gentlemen Standing
E26Two Gentlemen StandingThe theft of a painting from Colonel Mannering's house results in an expert from Scotland Yard, Chief Inspector Mitchum, being called in to assist. A missing illustration in a library book suggests someone local had taken an interest in the painting, and while Mitchum makes his own enquiries he leaves Parkin to visit the Colonel. It is Parkin's friendly questioning of Mannering that gives them a lead on visitors to the house.
